Lisa Gretzky accepts nomination as NDP candidate for Windsor West

Lisa Gretzky was unanimously acclaimed as the NDP provincial candidate for the Windsor West riding Saturday February 22 at the Caboto Club by a crowd of around 50 supporters. Congratulations, Lisa, we know that you will do an excellent job! The nomination was covered by the Windsor Star.

The meeting was opened by chair Thomas MacKay, president of the Windsor-Tecumseh NDP riding association.

Following his introductory remarks, the riding association took a few moments to formally honour and thank former long-time riding President Mariano Klimowicz. Youth Chair James VanderVoort made a speech reminiscing about Mariano’s efforts particularly to increase community involvement in the NDP, and his own experiences as a beneficiary (or target!) of those efforts. James and our current provincial riding President Mike Cardinal then presented Mariano with a commemorative plaque as well as a bottle of well-aged Wisers. Mariano then spoke briefly.

Essex MPP Taras Natyshak made an appeal for support, donations and solidarity in preparation for the upcoming provincial election, whenever it may be called.

The first pledge came from city Councillor Ron Jones, followed by many others. The final and most memorable pledge was one of personal support from Lisa’s daughter.

Lisa Gretzky was nominated for consideration as a candidate by Catholic school board Trustee Frank Favot, and seconded by Ron Jones. The nomination was uncontested, and she was elected unanimously.

Ontario NDP leader (and our future Premier) Andrea Horwath introduced Lisa:

Following the meeting, excess pizza was donated to Street Help / Unit & Homeless Services.
